Zhu Runzi works as an architectural photographer based in Shanghai and Paris with a focus on capturing and conveying ideas through the design as well as the dialogue with the context.
He graduated from MSA (Manchester School of Architecture) with a March degree. Before he practiced as an architect in HATCH Architects on several projects with one built. With a growing passion in taking photos during his study in the UK, his final-year project focused on the homelessness issue there through comprehensive photojournalism and finally drove him to a career in architectural photography.
With architectural education background and years of photography experience, he has accurate predictions on how different architecture would express at different timing, weather as well as lighting. He also self-learned how to use a large-format view camera on shooting architecture precisely which is the heritage of architectural photography and rarely existed nowadays. His work has been selected in the 100 finalist’s gallery in Architizer 2022. The work of Chapel of Sound has been longlisted in dezeenawards 2022 in both the architecture photography of the year and architecture video of the year category. In 2022 he has been awarded six winners in LOOP DESIGN AWARDS. His documentary photo series capturing the emptiness of Shanghai during the lockdown in early 2022 was wildly published on APALMANAC, Wallpaper, Archdaily.
